The mission of Parish Life is to
promote family life, to help build community in the parish, and to
foster a sense of belonging among parishioners. The Parish Life
Commission encompasses activities that help build the parish into a
faith community and provide for the social and communal needs of the
parishioners. This Commission includes the chairs of grief support
groups, hospitality, youth groups, evangelization, parish
fundraisers and social events, men's and women's clubs.
Current activity organizations and fundraisers include:
Garage, Antique and Bake Sales
- Our Garage Sale is headed up by volunteers who plan and organize
our spring and fall garage sales. Our garage sales are always the
last Thursday and Fridays of May and September each year. These are
our two major fundraisers for the parish and very fun to work at and
meet other parishioners...come join us! Our next garage sale will
be September 23rd 8:30 am - 7 pm and September 24th 8:30 am - 1 pm.
Women's Club - The Women's Club serve and support
the parish through hospitality, prayer, guest speakers, social
events, and various fundraisers such as our Fish Fry. The
Women's Club meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 7pm in
the Library of the Church.
Men's Club - The Men's Club is headed up by Tom
Baranak. Members organize and participate in such activities as
the Children's Easter Festivities, recycling projects, Ham Bingo
around Easter, various outings to sporting events and fundraisers
such as our Fish Fry. Each month the group strives to have a
speaker or topic/item of interest at the meetings. If you are
interested in attending any of these meetings please contact the
office for further information or attend one of their meetings held
on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 7pm in the Small Hall.
Funeral Luncheons - If a funeral luncheon is
requested we have a core group of lovely ladies who so caringly
prepare food for family members and friends of the deceased after
the funeral liturgy.
Mardi Gras - Our Mardi Gras celebration is not for
adults but a festival for our children on Fat Tuesday and headed up
by Laura Maginot! An entire gymnasium filled with games with
prizes, food, popcorn, and kids running around having a great
time! Our children had a fantastic time at this event.
A HUGE THANK YOU TO LAURA MAGINOT FOR CHAIRING
THIS EVENT! Proceeds benefited our Religious Education
Department and Mother Theresa's Sisters of Charity.
St. Joseph Soup Kitchen
Visit - We have a group of parishioners that help serve
food at the St. Joe Soup Kitchen in Hammond on the third Tuesday of
each month. The group is growing and is headed up by Helen Czernoch.
Each month they serve approximately 150 people lunch. If you are
interested in helping or donating please call the parish office.
The group leaves promptly at 8:30am and returns about 2:30pm.
Wittenberg Lutheran Village -
Once each month, Fr. Jim and a group of volunteers celebrate Mass
for Catholics at Wittenberg Lutheran Village for Catholic's who are
unable to attend church. Dates for this ministry change
occasionally so it is best to contact the church office for the
schedule. |
